FB Chain’s success story with K8LV software

For the past decade, FB Chain, a leader in manufacturing leaf chain for lifting applications, has collaborated closely with Klipboard using our Manufacturing software, formerly known as K8LV software. As we celebrate this milestone, we thought we’d reflect on how the partnership has positively influenced FB Chain's operations and growth.

FB Chain originally started up in 1985, and has undergone a great amount of expansion since then. Specialising in leaf chain, conveyor systems and lubrication systems across various industries including food and power, the company has grown from a small team to 33 dedicated employees, with multiple acquisitions and advanced machinery highlighting their impressive development.

In July 2014, FB Chain adopted Klipboard's Manufacturing, a versatile business management software which integrates key features such as rapid order fulfillment, precise inventory control, full batch traceability and sophisticated warehouse management. By automating processes like stock tracking and order processing, the software reduces manual errors, speeds up operations and improves accuracy. Its advanced tools also optimise inventory levels and enhance customer service through efficient order handling.

Before, our system was basic and we relied heavily on manual processes and Excel sheets. Manufacturing (K8LV) has given us a more cohesive solution, reducing manual data entry and allowing us to customise the system to fit our needs.

The benefits have been substantial. “The automation of manual tasks has significantly reduced our administrative workload and improved efficiency,” Robert explains. Staff previously had to manually cross-reference data to consolidate sales orders, manage inventory and track batches. This process was time-consuming and error-prone. Now, Manufacturing automates these tasks, handling purchase orders, real-time inventory updates and batch traceability, reducing manual effort and improving accuracy. “Generally its been time-saving thanks to a better user-interface and more functionality within one system itself,” he notes.

Additionally, Manufacturing (K8LV) has given FB Chain a competitive edge. The system’s ability to “find information quicker” and customise dispatch paperwork has allowed them to deliver superior service compared to their competitors. In the UK and at their Blackburn office in particular there is considerable competition, making efficiency crucial.

Since the creation of their own online shop, orders are also able to be seamlessly transmitted to the warehouse, facilitating quicker and more efficient processing. Utilising a more sustainable solution has also allowed them to shift towards their desired direction of digitisation: “We continue to reduce our printed paperwork with it. Previously, we had everything in brown paper folders and now that information is readily available”.

The support from Klipboard has been exceptional, and have been great in providing upgrades and ongoing support. Currently, the team are also guiding us through projects and suggesting improvements. Their proactive approach has been very positive for our business.

Looking forward, FB Chain is set to build on their decade of success with K8LV by further utilising their automation capabilities and streamlining their operations, reinforcing their goal of being “a world leader in tailored chain solutions”. To further digitise operations, FB Chain also plan to integrate ePick and eReceipt with Manufacturing. These app-based solutions speed-up warehouse tasks with efficient, paperless workflows. ePick provides accurate, guided stock-picking, whilst eReceipt supports instant stock updates upon receipt, reducing errors and improving service quality. Designed for smart devices, they will equip FB Chain with agile processes that minimise manual tasks and improve accuracy in their dynamic warehouse environment.
